Name of director
James Ponsoldt I know enjoy filmSmashed since early last year. Not only
impressed with the acting of Mary Elizabeth Winstead-charming in the movie, I
was very impressed with the way the story Smashed a down-to-earth as well as
striking and touching because it is so real. Therefore, I look forward to the
next work of Ponsoldt: The Spectacular Now. Smashed In contrast with screenplay
also written by Ponsoldt, The Spectacular Now adapted from a novel by Tim Tharp
and adapted into a screenplay by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber. This
duet was also the masterpiece that spawned indie (500) Days of Summer are cast
Joseph Gordon-Levitt becoming a Hollywood A-class star. So how do the results
of this collaboration?
Who does not
know Sutter Keely? He is a boy who is very famous in Senior High School. He had
a cheerful demeanor and a charming boyfriend Cassidy. Sutter did have a little
problem. Test scores at her school and her ugly little alcoholic (though not to
be a serious drinker) but what's the harm? Hedonistic lifestyle and live in the
present without the need for planning in the future is the style of Sutter. And
so on until a small misunderstanding made him break up with his girlfriend.
Because angry with Cassidy, Sutter drinking until drunk and passed out. It was
discovered by a school friend, a woman is reserved and a little anti-social
named Aimee Finicky.
At first Sutter
friends and even dating with Aimee for revenge on Cassidy. After all, the
nature of which is 180 degrees Aimee contrary to Sutter makes him so curious
about him. Aimee is a girl that intelligence, shy, likes sci-fi and manga
(read: weird hobbies) but also loves with all her heart Sutter. After all, the
main difference from Sutter and Aimee lies in how they view their lives. While
Sutter is the man who only live in today and see it NOW Aimee is a girl her
life in front of him and see the FUTURE. When the two collide and then how

The Spectacular
Now is ... just ... wow. I want to describe this movie with simple sentences
but I can not. It is a film that, for lack of a better word, spectacular. I
love, love, love the acting of Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley are chemistry
instantly felt from their first scene together. Miles Teller I previously only
knew as a boy hijinks good handyman in the 21 & Over Project X and prove
that he can, so can in fact, to act serious and display various layers of the
character. Sutter is not a simple character. He is a complex character who uses
drinking and laughter to cover the solitude and loneliness and Miles turn
completely to screen.
On the other
hand Shailene Woodley who previously have received a lot of praise through The
Descendants (the public may know her as the girl he cast into Mary Jane in The
Amazing Spider-man 2 but canceled) show the quality of his acting as one of the
young artists who deserve attention performance. Those of you who remember him
as a rebel and selfish girl in The Descendants will be surprised to see him in
this film becomes a sweet girl type of girl-next-door. There is a love scene
between Miles and Shailene were executed so perfectly shows the chemistry
between the two. Even so it should be recognized that the main star of this
movie is still Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley are complementary. It would be
interesting to see Divergent later where they will play together again with the
roles reversed ... Woodley became the main star and Teller into supporting
roles.
However, this
film does not just stop talking about their relationship but also about courage
for someone to see his past, learn from it, then move on to a new future. This
scene is the most realistic shown in how changes Aimee shy become more brave at
the end of the movie also how Sutter searching for the father who left him as a
child and how a meeting between the two leads to the best scene I watch this
year. I do not want spoilers but how Sutter expressing disappointment at the
ideal picture of a father who crushed a mess is something that seems to be
understood by every child who comes from a broken home.
I talked at
length about Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley for the life of this film is
located on both the chemistry but that does not mean the other players acting
badly. Of the supporting cast row Brie Larson, Mary Elizabeth Winstead-, until
Kyle Chandler playing nicely here but if they have to choose I would choose
Jennifer Jason Leigh as Sutter mother who in the end is the figure who best
understand the child's desire to find her father - no matter how jerk his
father first and then still can be a haven for the child in all of his
difficulties.
All the
complexities of The Spectacular Now this could get crushed if pacing bad script
and a director who is not competent. Fortunately it does not happen. Some
readers of the novel is a protest stating that some of their favorite parts of
the novel cut ending is also changing. After all, the novel and the film are
two different things. The writing duo Neustadter and Weber has been very well
thought of introducing the characters, the onset of the conflict, until the
resolution that leaves a warm feeling in the heart. I also salute the Ponsoldt each scene with a bandage-style
simplicity Smashed his work. He is clearly a new favorite indie director now!
