The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is an adaptation of a short story by James Thurber. This short story is quite popular in the 1940s first had even filmed in 1947 (and later was called as one of the 500 best films of all time by Empire magazine). Decade after decade passed and now there is a desire to remake this film in the form of a mixture of drama, comedy, and fantasy. As well as the director of  comedian Ben Stiller recent films are less successful at the box office market. With a title that is quite popular (in America there) but with a different approach to the story (modernized for today) is The Secret Life of Walter Mitty into a film that returns the name of Ben Stiller as a comedian in demand again?

Walter Mitty does not like the job but never dared to break out of his comfort zone. Therefore, year after year he worked and worked and worked as manager of film negatives (the analog camera film tablets) were then handed the photos to be printed. But change will happen either because Walter likes it or not LIFE magazine where she works will soon change function. From the print magazine, LIFE magazine will be transformed into a digital magazine which goes to press in cyberspace. That would mean a lot of people who will be fired - possibly even Walter also. Though the letter clearly stated that the negative photo # 25 of Sean is the best, even the essence of life (life) itself. Because Sean continued adventure here and there then it is very difficult to trace. Inevitably Walter decided to leave his comfort zone and set off around the world chasing Sean. With a duration of two hours running time approaching the film The Secret Life of Walter Mitty movie that boring and too much rambling before reaching the point of what it conveys to the audience wanted. From the beginning I already know what you want to talk to the audience so that I want to know is whether he can deliver it properly and effectively so that the message could be hit with the audience? The answer is between yes and no. One hour practical beginning of the film is spent with many scenes Walter rambling fantasy escape from real life. Do it once or twice probably is fair because it might homage to the original work (which describes Walter as a character dreamer), but these moments occur repeatedly; once, twice, three times, four times, and on-hold-on until finally all a dream Walter appeared I was impressed not even feel it a waste of budget for scenes unimportant and a waste of time damage the pacing of the story. We get it that Walter is a dreamer. Let's move on.

When arriving at the middle of the movie when Walter finally dare to break his comfort zone this film was not one hundred percent successful. It seems like there is less wrong thing to script writer of this movie so they swapped the meaning of 'bold' and 'reckless' or maybe even 'stupid'. I want to ask you: if you ride the helicopter pilots who fly drunk and potentially weather the storm, whether it is a brave or foolish thing? Well, as these actions may seem as cool as Walter broke his comfort zone, but he did it the wrong way, destroy the message to be delivered. Lucky this movie before getting crushed into a more directional control of the story before the final 30-40 minutes.

This movie is really concentrating focusing on Ben Stiller as a Walter Mitty so focused on supporting artists like Kristen Wiig and Adam Scott is not much. Unfortunately Stiller does not always work as a Walter Mitty. Stature and demeanor in this movie too seriously so the audience as not sure if the film is trying to look heavier on the drama or comedy. I salute the brave Stiller trying new roles are more challenging, but he never managed to replicate success when comedian Jim Carrey is taking a more serious role in The Truman Show. As a supporting character Kristen Wiig has also appeared unremarkable and Adam Scott who sucks more steals. He looks it was a bitch and asking beaten.

So my conclusion is ... odd to me that the strongest aspect of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty actually exotic landscape (from Greenland to the mountains of the Himalayas!) Places explored by Ben Stiller. And this movie does not just want to teach the audience how to break comfort zone but also sells lifestyle-style adventure backpackers. If you are looking for films that are life enrichment, then obviously there are many better options than this movie.
