One of the best films created by Disney at the end of his life was
Mary Poppins. The film had 13 nominations Academy Awards and won 5 of them. He
is remembered as one of the most Influential movies in his time even until now,
catapulted the name Julie Andrews as one of the artist's love of the American
public. But like a lot of success in life: people sometimes do not know how to
struggle to get the success. It is seen again in the film world where a lot of
creative parties have to fight one another in asking their opinion: which one
should go and should be out in a movie. The film Mary Poppins is also not free from this problem. Since initially only attempt Walt Disney for the rights to adapt the book by PL Travers has continued to obtain lump of the author. P.L. Travers was not like the image that Disney was still thick with cartoons and musical tunes. He worried that the effort to adapt the Disney Mary Poppins of the book will eliminate the essence of Mary Poppins own. However, the business does not know the word Disney surrender coupled with financial OT Travers is approaching bankruptcy because it never generates new book makes the author was forced to agree to sell the rights to the Disney adaptation of his book ... on one condition.
Terms it is he has to get permission to see the scenario of the
film and agreed. As we know now: Mary Poppins is a musical with a lot of
additional elements that make a song and animation PL Travers increasingly
angry and continued arguing with Walt Disney and the crews of other tenants of
this movie. This film not only tells about the making of the film Mary Poppins,
but also about childhood OT Travers first, giving the audience insight why she
grew into a woman who is so cold and annoying. What is the secret of youth P.L.
Travers and whether it makes the audience more sympathetic to it?Please visit here
Saving Mr. Banks are always moving in two timeline for most of the
film. The first timeline is the timeline of today where Walt Disney and PL
Travers fight because of differences in their creative visions will be movie
Mary Poppins while the second is a timeline of childhood OT Travers where he
has not put his pen name and his real name is: Helen Goff. That became a bit
strange from the second movie is the second approach clashes this timeline.
Timeline today presented with bright and filled with classic Disney
soundtracks. Appearance from Tom Hanks as Walt Disney and Emma Thompson as PL
Travers contrast strongly make both enjoyable banter, sometimes funny though
sometimes annoying. So the timeline of the past brought with even a little
melancholy seriously raised serious issues such as bankruptcy, death, to
attempt suicide.
The second timeline is getting almost equal portions and that is
the biggest problem for this film. I as an audience can never really set the
mood in this movie, always changing every 5-10 minutes in order to follow the
storyline in two different timelines it. Not helping is how acting in both the
timeline presented with a very nice making it easier for me dissolve into each
timeline (Annie Rose Buckley is amazing as young Helen). If only slightly
reduced portion flashback will certainly help make the audience focus more on
one of the era. Saving Mr. Banks never sure which will focus on making the
timeline era of the past present and so less unearthed details. How do you feel
at the sight of Julie Andrews Travers cast as Mary Poppins for example? Or how
about the continuation of the life of Helen Goff childhood?
Even so the movie Saving Mr. Banks
are still a very good drama and attract the attention of the audience from
beginning to end. Even for me who have never watched the film Mary Poppins was
very informative for me. I know that some aspects of the film does not match
the reality but these elements are sacrificed to make Saving Mr. Banks as a
narrative film that has a cover that is more complete and satisfying. (SPOILER)
Did P.L. Travers was also a reflection of each of us who are not satisfied with
life? And is not the point in our lives in the Disney animated media, movies,
or even toys helps us to overcome the difficulties of life? There is an
interesting parallel drawn by director John Lee Hancock here that will only
succeed if the ending of the movie Saving Mr. Banks changed according to what
is described in the ending of this movie.
