Police Story is
one of the franchises that carry the name of Jackie Chan Drunken Master style
besides work and adventures in Project A. After initial films tone leads to
comedy, this franchise rebooted in 2004 with New Police Story is more serious
and highlight Jackie Chan as someone who not only could appear in the comedy
films alone but also an actor who can appear serious. Police Story 2013
continued this trend, worked almost decade later with some changes. First: this
movie is not set in Hong Kong but in China (knowingly, China is now the biggest
market of Asia), Second: this movie is not related to the New Police Story but
other stand-alone story.Unlike in the stories where the previous Police Story Jackie Chan became a cop for the state of Hong Kong here he is Zhong Wen is a dedicated Chinese police. At the beginning of the film he was asked by his son: Miao Miao to meet with him at a bar called Wu Bar. There Miao Zhong Wen introduced to her boyfriend: the owner of the Wu Jiang Wu Bar. Zhong Wen clearly furious because his son does not like to fall in love with a bar owner. Shortly after the argument took place suddenly Zhong Wen beaten and fell unconscious. The culprit? Si Wu Jiang.
Apparently
dating Miao Wu Jiang Zhong Wen only to trap alone. He was holding the visitors
in the bar at the same time his employees themselves together with four
friends. The visitors plus employees who fear that threatened by Wu Jiang to be
killed if their demands were not met. Zhong Wen caught was not able to do
anything other than listen to Wu Jiang throws his request to the police.
Quietly but Zhong Wen escape. Can the police stop the Wu Jiang and what is
actually desired by the criminal mastermind that? Please visit here
Previously I
listen to a lot of negative reviews-review about this movie that made me
hesitant to watch it. Moreover, the film director Ding Sheng collaboration with
Jackie earlier, Little Big Soldier, even I do not like-like extremely. But
after finish watching it I feel that this movie is not bad. Not really special
but not bad either. Jackie Chan as he had already appeared in the film humanist
with a formidable figure Inhuman but not like in most movies that he starred in
his youth. Chan is already close to 60 years has been increasingly afraid to do
crazy stunts stunt again so that practically no one dangerous stunt that he
lakoni in this movie. Those who are observant will realize that the building
leap scene be cut quickly and joined in a row, made me question if it was not
edited or not use a stuntman.
Martial art
scenes in this film were not many and none were impressive. There was a fight,
a cage fight, but my impression memorable enough to fight not from fight
choreography but of emotion and groove the movie itself. Once again needs to be
understood that Jackie is not getting any younger age and I was resigned to
that now will not be able to see it appear crazier sorts in First Strike or Who
Am I used to. Jackie Chan is Jackie Chan is now going to appear in the action
films that are more concerned with drama and story.
And if it was
intended it should be recognized that the Police Story 2013 is not bad. Jackie
Chan's character is contrasted with his friends in the police force others make
me wonder if this was intentional by the director? Zhong Wen made the figure
as a moral standard that must be upheld police? Because it's no secret that the
police in China is different from police in other countries. They are not known
to forgive and quite often even kill the terrorists left and right. It is
certainly different from that Wen Zhong believes that many terrorists heart can
be changed through dialogue and discussion.
As perfect as
any Jackie Chan's character is a young artist Liu Ye most steals my attention
with his performance as Wu Jiang. The main antagonist of the film, appearing
sympathetic Jiang Wu and Liu Ye's body language showed that he was doing this
because it was forced to act hostage. There are two types of criminals that I
like in the world of film; that one is a total crazy and do things outside
planning (ala Joker) and another is a sympathetic figure and usually has a
strong background and reasons for doing what he did. Wu Jiang fell in the second
type. Unfortunately Jing Tian who also appeared before this in the Special ID
only appear as mere decoration here. Even chemistry with Jackie Chan as the
father character is not going well and tasted bland. Congratulations to Jing
Tian an increasingly active role in the art world. After his success performing
with Donnie Yen in the Special ID and Jackie Chan in Police Story 2013 artists
that are hot this will appear with Chow Yun Fat in the latest series God of
Gambler 2014: From Vegas to Macau.
One more
weakness in the film is the first that feels a bit slow and long-winded. I was
disappointed with some flashbacks that occur in this film that turned out to
have nothing to do with the main storyline. So why put simply to extend the
duration of the film alone? Moreover, it is not clear yet nothing but emphasize
that Zhong Wen is a good cop character and responsible (which we get it, since
they practically hammer it to us with nearly every dialogue)
In spite of all
the weaknesses I actually like Police Story in 2013 for his courage overturning
some action movie cliches, including a twist at the end of the movie and the
fight in the climax.
So my conclusion
is ... Police Story Jackie Chan movie in 2013 is not full of crazy action
stunts and fight choreography is creative. It is different Police Story and you
will be disappointed if it was your expectations. Instead of this expected
lower expectations a la Die Hard movie (hostage) with lower quality then you
can enjoy watching it.
