When Donnie Yen become popular in the years 2008 through Ip Man he suddenly became the hope that the Hong Kong film industry was dying. The films of Donnie Yen is hope for them to create something slick and sensational. Unfortunately it became famous since Donnie Yen film becomes less good resume. Just think three best films ever worked Donnie Yen and I'm sure the answer is SPL, Flashpoint, and Ip Man is a film that releases all in when he was not known as it is now. Since that time the movies were released by him practically slick could be counted on the fingers. Ip Man 2 and Wu Xia films that are pretty neat, but in between hit and miss, Yen seems to make a lot more miss.

And miss it feels unbearable after three rounds of the following: Special ID, The Monkey King, danIceman. When first released my special ID happily assume that this will be as a complement in a trilogy of modern martial arts action from Donnie Yen - which unfortunately is not so. The Monkey King did not watch but I saw the trailer with no more slick CG quality of Indonesian sinetron movie I was interested to follow. Last is the Iceman is a remake of The Iceman Cometh, the 1989 film starring Yuen Biao.

In the film Donnie Yen role as He Ying, a general who lived in the imperial nurse. He was accused of being a traitor and working with the Japanese so hounded by the second brother (fellow) it: Sao and Niehu. In this hunt He Ying and her siblings were buried in the snow and fell asleep for hundreds of years. The three of them woke up in the modern era after it was discovered and is now being sold by the police chief, Cheung, corrupt. All three should live separate with their own way of adapting to a world much different from the time in which they lived then. In addition, all three are still searching for a mystical object that supposedly could turn back the clock.

This movie is really bad in ... everything. Donnie Yen is an actor who could never appear in a variety of emotions too much. Even the type in a good film is always a figure that is a lot of talk and a lot of hitting. In this film the actor is required to display a wide variety of emotions ranging from funny (which he lakoni with crisp) to appear serious (which he kaprahkan by appearing flat wrong). Even chemistry should be awakened by the main artist Eva Huang course entirely untapped. Between the rows of artists involved here only Wang Baoqiang are acting a little slick in some scenes although he still appears overakting.

The scenario was written by Stephen Shiu messy and never focused - as if written by people who did not graduate school is right to write scripts. Please Enjoy This.The story jumps from one point to another point without ever having a clear connection from one scene to another. In one scene of the movie is about the past of He Ying in the Ming Dynasty jump to another scene that tells the story of how He Ying tried to help the mother of May recovered from his illness, and later jump again to the other scenes are more absurd and unrelated to the story. My head was so sick and dizzy following the story.

Given Donnie Yen stands as Action Director of the film coupled with a budget of this film is unusually large (with hundreds of millions HKD devoted to this movie, Iceman is one of the most expensive movie production of Hong Kong) I really hope the action scenes of this movie. But it turns out I was again let down here. The action scenes in the film is quite minimal and poorly choreographed. Even the action scenes in the nightclub that became the highlight of this film was not at all memorable in my eyes, away from the fight scenes Donnie Yen in his films are good. Climactic scene of this film with car chases and Vespa (yes, vespa) takes crisp with a camera placement that is too much to wear close-ups so that makes it less exciting.

The most disappointing is the number of coarse CG used this film. How many times people in Hong Kong and Thailand must understand that the CG in Asia is still far backward from Hollywood CG quality. This means better movies like The Protector 2 or Iceman is DO NOT wear CG and use the original stunt. Please see dwilogi The Raid Gareth Evans filmed and you will realize how far the quality of the films of martial arts style that took the short walk over two films and compared with the martial arts movies that actually dare to work hard with elaborate stunt and prop.

As if sowing salt in the wound that has been sore, Iceman terminate this film with the ending ... I do not know. Disconnected so alone. There is no clear conclusion as Peter Jackson cut trilogy The Lord of the Rings and no smell cliffhanger conclusion ala Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. There was only an abrupt ending that just happened as if the film is running out of time and budget cultivation. This film editor - as all the film crew involved - questionable quality.

So my conclusion is ... after watching this movie with a heavy heart I declare that I am no longer a fan of Donnie Yen. I could understand if there is a bad movie or two bad movies in a row. But the three films? Uh, this does test the patience of his name dude!
