Now the trend is
working on a horror film with a minimum budget. The success of Paranormal
Activity revived as genre found footage that was once popular when The Blair
Witch Project is released. Strangely enough this phenomenon since The Blair Witch
Project was a popular because people do not know whether it is real or not (and
the internet was still in the premature). Currently with bells, computers and so many found footage film snobs
practical curiosity about whether a movie like this is really happening is not
there. We know that the movie ... so if the tunnel has an element x which can
make effective scare the audience?
The film follows
the adventures of four journalists: Natasha, Peter, Steve, and Tangles entry
into sewers underground water reservoirs of Sydney. There used to be a plan of
government of New South Wales (province / state where Sydney is located) to
renovate the underground channel and turn it into a water treatment to tackle
drinking water crisis in Australia. However, because of a sudden things just
this plan was abandoned by the government. Natasha is in charge of this
investigation was considered that this is because there are a lot of homeless
people residing there. After all, after hearing the confession of a frightened
homeless Natasha found that many homeless people allegedly disappeared while in
the sewers. What's going on in there?
One of the
drawbacks found footage genre film like this is initially slow. Same weaknesses
that disrupt [REC] and Paranormal Activity is particularly disturbing Pacing
The Tunnel for nearly the first hour. For 30 minutes we just talk to it was a
matter of political, economic, and social fabric of Sydney which unfortunately
is not delivered properly so it does not interest me. Upon entering the second
part of the film the audience was invited to participate with all four members
of the film crew entered the hall in the gutter was the ghost / creature /
thing strange indirect appeared. Practically we invited swirling darkness which
unfortunately is also not effective in increasing the tension of the story.
At the moment
I've been really bored with The Tunnel director Carlo Ledesma fortunately able
to pay my long wait to the last 20 minutes the film is pretty banged up heart.
Suddenly long hallways are dark it becomes a haunted place and evoke
claustrophobic sensation. The apparition of the devil is only made
sporadically and not much is clear - even to the end of the film though -
because the film is a small budget and funded by crowd funding. The acting of
the four main stars own standards and there is no need to be discussed further.
Please be advised, insufficient funds means the director may hire actors and
actresses involved in this movie voluntarily or minimal.
One more thing
that disturb me to enjoy this film is the interview with the two film crew for
the film progresses. While this method successfully makes sitcom Modern Family
was a semi-documentary, this method is less effective in the found footage
horror movie. The reason? Easy. In a tense horror film I always imagine anyone
who survived and those who did not. In this movie I already know who among the
four people who survived and who did not. Why? Yes because there is already giving
interviews for the film (as a commentator for the ongoing scene). It
practically kills most of the tension in the film because I know "hey, he
did not do with the same ghost of what he must have survived because of"
too "ah just a matter of time for this one person dies because she does
not interviewed ..."
