Which version of
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo that you like? Hollywood version, directed by
David Fincher or Swedish version directed by Niels Arden Oplev? Regardless of
which version you like The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a blessing for the
many parties involved in it. Since the success of the film the two main actors:
Michael Nyqvist and Noomi Rapace has been successfully go hollywood. Not to be
outdone by the two actors that he eventually fielding Niels Arden Oplev the
director went into Hollywood with a directorial debut: Dead Man Down. In this
film besides wearing Colin Farrell as the main star Rapace Oplev also invited.
Coupled with the stars are pretty slick as Dominic Cooper and Terrence Howard
is Dead Man Down could be a good thriller?
Victor is a
subordinate working under Alphonse Hoyt gangster ... but he secretly held a
grudge to the person. Unnoticed by the Hoyt family had he been killed following
Victor Victor but Victor was not dead. Now Victor devise a plan to kill Hoyt
following subordinates. In the middle of the journey of revenge that Victor met
with a woman named Beatrice disability due to an accident. Because the soul
both are 'injured' then Victor and Beatrice find a match with each other. But
when Beatrice open secret that he never saw Victor kill people and plans to
report to the police if Victor did not obey his orders, Victor revenge plans
suddenly become more complex and dangerous again.
The film,
written by J.H. Wyman (best known as a fan of the TV series Fringe writer and
executive producer) has a slow groove but fortunately did not get boring. It
was saved from the performance of the two main leads are convincing. Colin
Farrell may be the material of jokes in Hollywood today because of all the
movies that he starred flop (some even ask why he still wants to be used when
bringing bad luck) but the actor proves that he has the ability to appear as a
man who was wounded and torn between wanting revenge or start a new life. On
the other hand Rapace appearance here is equally good. Farrell is almost the
same as it is able to provoke sympathy from the audience as a disabled girl who
is now ashamed to face the world. At first I thought that the drama portion of
the film will disrupt the portion thriller but fortunately not so; instead they
complement each other quite successful.
Dead Man Down
Weakness seen towards the climax of the movie where the plot is already laid
out neatly as total tone thriller suddenly turned into action. I was a little
disappointed to watch it and feel Oplev and Wyman seems to take the easy way
out to cover the story of Victor revenge. The plot as a whole also has a
weakness here and there. Not that bad until the hole needs to be crowned the
plot is but quite disturbing to me thinking "Loh, why the X did not do it
alone and even bother?". I also do not like the absurd behavior of the
children in this film. I do not want a spoiler to you about what they do but if
my parents they would be my students better.
