If asked to
compare between the two popular sci-fi franchise Star Trek Star Warsdan which
one is better I can not because I love both of them. But when asked which is
more popular then the answer becomes much easier. Without shrink Star Trek,
Star Wars is clearly the more popular franchise. Star Trek franchise even had
to go through dark times after they failed feature films and TV series the
rating continues to decline until eventually canceled. But executives at studio
Paramount know that what they have to do to make Star Trek relevant again is to
reboot.
Project reboot
under control J.J. Abrams was released in 2009 and successfully won a new
audience-the audience for this franchise. I'm including it. I did not ever get
to know the characters because the original Star Trek series ever played in
Indonesia is the first series of The Next Generation (generation Captain
Jean-Luc Piccard). This financial success brings Star Trek to a new generation
and the mainstream world. For the first time in a very - very long dare admit
the Trekkies themselves and do not feel ashamed for it; even feel that they
themselves cool. Abrams was again asked as the figure who will be working on
the sequel.
Sequel was
planned to be released in the year 2012 finally delayed for a year because the
director did not want to rush supposedly because they want to maintain the
quality of the film. Finally, after successfully combines all of the Enterprise
crew back and add character Benedict Cumberbatch as the villain sequel
subtitled Into Darkness was released on the market in summer 2013 result how?
After their
success to stop the invasion of the nation's last film Romulan Kirk and Spock
still often at odds because of the difference in principle between the two.
Because of the differences in the last mission that eventually Kirk instead
should be removed from the seat of Captain in the Enterprise. Kirk's removal
did not last long because the whole unity of Starfleet who was arguing with the
Klingons even under attack from a mysterious man who calls himself John
Harrison. This guy does not mess around and is a far more formidable enemy than
Nero. The figure of the monster that will test all abilities Kirk, Spock, and
other Enterprise members to fight it. Safety entire Starfleet academy and the
world is in their hands.
Star Trek Into
Darkness is a film that is epic and overwhelming. J.J. Abrams silencing critics
and those who deny him just a one-hit-wonder through the first Star Trek movie
had to prove that he is a figure who deserves to be directing this film. This
sequel is wearing mostly movie reboot grip another; store character stronger
enemy for the next sequel. Remember the Joker in The Dark Knight and Moriarty
in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows? It was so. Fortunately, Abrams does not
necessarily make this film come talkative super dark. If you feel like it in
the trailer do not worry. There are still a lot of humor with funny banter here
and there that makes this movie so many times invited laughter from the
audience.
One of the
shortcomings of the film Star Trek is the other characters are less given the
opportunity to shine and JJ Abrams fix here. Almost all the characters like
Uhura, Zulu, Scotty and others to get more rations appear here. What is still
lacking that little thought is Chekov wasted appearance here. Anton Yelchin
wait, yes, I'm sure you're (probably) going to be a bigger role in the sequel
later. For the three new additional characters: Peter Weller, Alice Eve and
Benedict Cumberbatch most certainly steal the show here certainly is Benedict
Cumberbatch. Anyone figure may already be guessed by those who follow news and
rumors gossip and the making of the film Sherlock Holmes is to play it with a
very, very convincing! You will not be disappointed for the performance. I actually
really want to comment more on performance but unfortunately Cumberbatch
discuss it further would only take this review into the realm of spoilers.
With 195 Million USD budget, J.J.
Abrams also able to create effects and action set-piece that is very
spectacular for this movie. Some Trekkies fanatics might say that this makes
the film less nuanced Star Trek ... but let's admit it ... to penetrate the mainstream
consumer (especially in the summer) a strong storyline alone is not sufficient
and must be supplemented with bombastic effects. For me Into Darkness presents
alloy fitting for both: making the best summer movie I watch to date. Yet in
spite of all the advantages that I somehow still feel that the first Star Trek
movie a little - a little more superior than this sequel.
