While Marvel
continues to create films on the big screen new superhero rival DC still miss
the train. Panic from DC and Warner Bros. after mounting the films they worked
on during the interval of The Dark Knight The Dark Knight Rises heading:
Watchmen, Jonah Hex, and Green Lantern all fail financially. What else can they
dig franchise when the trilogy of Batman saga will end? So DC was again turned
to the greatest superhero: the man of steel.
Iconic superhero
Superman is first and foremost. Although in the modern era of society seems to
be more like the grounded superhero like Spider-man and Batman, one must
remember that Superman was the first superhero who made the wide screen and
great success in 1978 first. Yes, 35 years ago Superman first made the world
believe that the audience can fly! Unfortunately the failure of Superman IV and
Superman Returns Bryan Singer reboot makes fans should bite the fingers
watching the progress of the story.
When Warner
Bros. hired as director Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan as a producer of this
film I felt that he could move in two directions. The first: Snyder stylish
style and no substance collide with Nolan substance but not stylish ... which
means hell for the audience because the film does not have a clear identity, or
both: Snyder and Nolan styles complement each other ... which means making the
Man of Steel praised as a masterpiece that could compete with its Nolan Batman
trilogy.
After waiting six years of
failure of Superman Returns, last son of Krypton back fly to the nearest
cineplex. How did it go?
Unless you're a
creature that comes from sense-it's an alien planet, you'd know who it is
Superman and how he came to earth. As a baby on the planet called Krypton, Kal-El's
father and her mother were flown by Jor-El and Lara to Earth after the planet
Krypton in danger of collapse. Arriving him on earth he was raised as Clark
Kent by foster parents Jonathan and Martha Kent until he finds himself as the
last son of Krypton and becomes Superman, the man of earth defenders.
Maybe David S.
Goyer as a screenwriter also understand that that part where young Clark grow
into adulthood are not well served in this movie, takes place only with
cut-through flashbacks depicting the occasional emergence. Instead screenplay
written by Goyer is much more focused on the sides that have not been revealed
by previous Superman films like the final days of the planet Krypton and how
interaction Clark with other men while he was still troubled search for his
true identity. All of this is not new if you've read the comics Superman
because this film takes inspiration from some of the popular Superman origin
story of sorts Man of Steel from John Bryne and Superman: birthright by Mark
Waid.
From my own
casting division judge that almost all the actors and actresses who got here
right role run their respective roles. Russell Crowe and Kevin Costner in
effect be two father figure to Kal-El / Clark Kent and although portions Crowe
in this movie is more dominant, there is no denying that both contribute to
make anyone that Clark now. On the other hand I somewhat regretted Ayelet Zurer
as Lara is too passive. Of the four parent figure owned by Ayelet Zurer Clark
became the only artist who fails to leave an impression for me.
To figure myself I really like
Superman with Henry Cavill's performance here. I'm not saying he's perfect for
her acting here is still a bit raw but at least the film did not require
scripts appear as the geeky Clark and Superman are dashing. It feels Henry had
enough time to continue to hone his acting and returned as a more mature figure
later when the movie sequel Man of Steel tilled. For his own Michael Shannon as
General Zod is a pretty tough opponent for Superman. It was great throughout
the movie Zod and the other Kryptonian nation an enemy of Superman no-frills
Lex Luthor figure. I love the one with the bald man but this film needs a
figure like Zod can physically compete with Superman.
The best
performance in this film is certainly present in Lois Lane, played in a very -
very brilliant by Amy Adams. Here he is Lois modern times so I look forward for
this! She is a smart girl, sexy, and sophisticated. I am not surprised that
Clark fell in love with him and instead he liked Clark. Both have the right
chemistry with each other - something that is hard to believe considering Henry
Cavill 30 year old while Amy Adams is aged 38 years! Yet outside Lois's face
that looks older and more deserving of a big brother than a boyfriend Clark are
both in harmony with each other.
The action
scenes are also be highlighted in this film. Because of advances in technology
and the era of fierce battle super human beings can be represented by an
exclamation. This is where I see how Snyder is a figure of the right director
for this film. How did he take the viewpoint-camera creative standpoint, doing
exciting fight choreography, ah it feels like the lessons he had learned while
making Sucker Punch be paid off here! However, there are times when Snyder
seems too excessive and stands to make devastating effects that sounded
somewhat unreasonable and make some obvious CG effects its fake.
If I am forced
to mention the weakness of the Man of Steel then it lies in the first hour that
bad editing accompanied the story is weak and boring. There were a few times I
got confused with the movement of one scene to another because it lacks a clear
correlation. More annoying again is rather a long time used to explain past
Clark to humanize himself to the audience. But hey, it's probably just me that
a complaint has been watching the series Smallville for ten years alias was
familiar with growing step by step Clark Superman costume
